SUMMARY:(DE) Climate Walk zum Thema „klimaresiliente Städte“ am 28.5.2024
DESCRIPTION:Ihr wolltet schon immer Euer Grätzl ökologischer gestalten\, wisst aber nicht\, wo Ihr anfangen sollt? \nAnmeldung unbedingt erforderlich! \nNähere Informationen und Anmeldung unter: https://ech.univie.ac.at/event/climate-walk-zum-thema-klimaresiliente-staedte-2024/

SUMMARY:ÖH meets Climate Walk – die Wanderers laden zum Audiowalk
DESCRIPTION:ÖH Nachhaltigkeitswoche 2024 \nDie Klimakrise betrifft uns alle!

SUMMARY:Green Colonialism in Sápmi. Experiencing Environmental Change through Walking and Talking
DESCRIPTION:We would like to invite you the following online and in-person event. Feel free to spread this invitation. \nGreen Colonialism in Sápmi.\nExperiencing Environmental Change through Walking and Talking \nDate: Wednesday\, 3nd of May 2023 \nTime: 18.00-19.30 CEST (followed by refreshments and reindeer chips) \nPlace: Konferenzraum\, Department of Political Science/Uni Vienna\, Universitätsstrasse 7\, 1010 Vienna\, 2nd floor \nOnline: https://univienna.zoom.us/j/3552417963?pwd=dTNvWFJFQmIzaHJWM3I0NnBjU1Zwdz09 \nNo registration required for this event \nSápmi is the homeland of the Sámi people\, the only people recognized in the Europe as Indigenous. Sápmi spreads over the North of Norway\, Sweden\, Finland and the Kola peninsula of Russia. ‘Green colonialism’ is triggered by the international race for non-renewable resources and renewable energy to realise ‘green transition’. This is a contemporary and major threat to the cultural\, social and economic integrity of Sámi people and their ability to conduct reindeer herding\, fishing\, hunting\, and harvesting. These ways of being on the land and the waters are the foundations of cultural identity\, and subsequently the basis for wellbeing. Moreover\, green colonialism painfully reminds us of past colonial threats\, including violent assimilation politics of the dominating states. Sámi communities\, institutions and individuals of all ages and walks of life have successfully built a strong voice\, opposition and Indigenous movements over the past decades. Also\, non-Indigenous allyship is prevailing\, including critique on the neglect and obvious resistance of the nation states to thoroughly deal with the manifold colonial impacts on the Sámi\, but also on a collective sense for an integrated and equity based diverse society in these nations. \nThis event reflects on questions of Indigenous and non-Indigenous solidarity\, but also on potential pit-falls of ‘allyship’ by possibly creating an ethnical Other and thus\, dissimilation which might lead again to hierarchies and valuations\, as well known from the past. \nThe Climate Walk is a research\, education and media-arts project. It’s about walking across Europe – including Sápmi – to collect data on local experiences of living in environments impacted by Climate Change as a biophysical phenomenon and Changing Social Climates reflected in local stories\, representations and practices. The Climate Walk’s wayfarers listen to stories of conflict\, action\, struggle\, hope and people’s dreams. The wanderers and local people meet and may learn from each other to adapt and overcome the challenges posed by changing environments. Climate Walk is about relaying and connecting these stories\, bringing people together and amplifying voices to form bonds of cooperation and solidarity. \nThe speakers from Sápmi and Austria met during the climate walk in 2022 in the Sámi homeland and will converse about allyship and solidarity\, joint experiences and reflect on ‘what’ happened during time until meeting again now in the homeland of the Climate Walkers. \nThis is a joint event organised by the following speakers \n\nEllen Marie Jensen (Sámi Allaskuvla/Sámi University of Applied Sciences in Kautokeino\, Norwegian Sápmi)\nRoger K. Olsson\, reindeer herder and entrepreneur (Lainiovuoma Sámi Village\, Marakatt Siida\, Swedish Sápmi)\nAnna Schreinlechner (Climate Walk)\nMarkus Lerchbaum (Climate Walk)\nGertrude Saxinger (CeSCoS Centre for the Study of Contemporary Solidarity at the Department of Political Science/Uni Vienna & APRI Austrian Polar Research Institute & CO-CREATE Network)\n\n  \nContact: contact@climatewalk.eu and Gertrude.Saxinger@univie.ac.at \n  \nLooking forward seeing you! \nThe organizers

SUMMARY:Walk Off - Start of the walk
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever walked 12000 kilometers\, or in other words 15.000.000 steps? Well\, we have not either. It is high time to change that. Not only because we want to know how it feels both physically and mentally to be on the move for so long\, but  also because walking grounds us. It is our central method of getting and staying in touch with landscapes\, people and their stories. We consider it as the closest and most immediate way of perceiving the already tactile manifestations of Climate Change and changing climates. \nStarting by June 5 in 2022 at the North Cape in Northern Norway\, we are going to make our way down south\, through tundras\, over mountain ranges and alongside sparkling rivers. \nIf you are looking for information on why we have decided to postpone the Climate Walk to 2022 check out this blog post: https://www.climatewalk.eu/2021/03/postponing-the-climate-walk/ \nCheck out our full route at www.sprint.climatewalk.eu/route/

SUMMARY:Workshop Klimawandel und Tourismus
DESCRIPTION:Generationen Walk am 1. SUMMARY:Start des "Climate Walk - Geh'ma\, Austria!"
DESCRIPTION:Am 3. \n\nThe “Climate Walk – Geh’ma\, Austria!” is about to start on the 3rd of July! \nAlong 1.300 km and 34.000 masl\, our walk leads us from west to east\, covering a broad variety of landscapes and practices. People’s perceptions and experiences in the rural regions of the mountain areas\, the alpine foothills and the rather flat and more densely populated areas of Vienna will be on our track. With this alternative\, we get the possibility to strengthen community ties and gain valuable experiences. \nThis enables us to\, on a smaller scale\, try out everything we have set out to do originally\, and to further secure our position for the bigger project and bridges the gap until the beginning of the european Climate Walk on the 5th of June 2022. \nFor route details\, click here. \n

For what we term “connActing” people\, that is bringing people together through an emancipatory agenda\, we need two particular things. \nFirst\, we need to be able to reach an audience\, to communicate Climate Change and the Climate Crisis. For dealing with this issue\, we have invited two speakers elaborating on the issue of how to communicate the Climate Crisis in a meaningful way. The second part of this class is dedicated to speakers sketching out approaches for overcoming and dealing with the Climate Crisis. Here\, we will talk about prospects of aocio-ecological transformation\, about what makes the imperial mode of living so persisent\, and about how to fight for of a good life for all. \n\nSession 1 (16.45-18.15):\n\nLecture 1: Andreas Scherlofsky (University of Vienna): tba\nLecture 2: Gabriel Baunach (Climaware): Climate Change Communication: How (not) to speak about the climate crisis!\n\n\nSession 2 (18.30-20.00):\n\nPanel Discussion “Climate Crisis and the Socio-Ecological Transformation” (with)\n\nUlrich Brand (University of Vienna)\, Manuel Grebenjak (Stay Grounded Campaigner)\, Camila Moreno (HU Berlin)\n\n\nAll the classes can be accessed through a recurring Zoom link open for everyone:\nhttps://univienna.zoom.us/j/99951349832?pwd=eS9HbzBxSXZIaHlKV2JhcFVWM09sZz09\n\nAfter the session\, the recording can be found here: www.sprint.climatewalk.eu/cwlecturerecordings (but please note that it may take some days until it is available)\n\nWith regards to access to and grading of the lecture series:\nAll the classes can be accessed through a recurring Zoom link open for everyone: https://univienna.zoom.us/j/99951349832?pwd=eS9HbzBxSXZIaHlKV2JhcFVWM09sZz09\nBesides\, studens of the University of Vienna may want to register for the course. DESCRIPTION:After having discussed the diversity and multiplicity of perspectives on Climate Change and Climate Change Research\, the second class – under the header of “We Walk!” – will deal with the heart of the Climate Walk’s methodological approach\, namely with walking! For sheding light on the potential and challenges of “research/fieldwork on foot”\, four brilliant speakers will share their considerations and experiences with regards to walking in and through rapidly changing landscapes. \n“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” (Chinese Proverb\, Laozi) \nSlot 1 (16.45-18.15)\nLecture 1: Tim Ingold (University of Aberdeen): Walking in a Weather-World (+ Q & A session)\nTim Ingold is Professor Emeritus of Social Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen. He has carried out fieldwork among Saami and Finnish people in Lapland\, and has written on environment\, technology and social organisation in the circumpolar North\, on animals in human society\, and on human ecology and evolutionary theory. His more recent work explores environmental perception and skilled practice. Ingold’s current interests lie on the interface between anthropology\, archaeology\, art and architecture. His recent books include The Perception of the Environment (2000)\, Lines (2007)\, Being Alive (2011)\, Making (2013)\, The Life of Lines (2015)\, Anthropology and/as Education (2018)\, Anthropology: Why it Matters (2018) and Correspondences (2020). \nLecture 2: Ulrich Grober (Publicist\, Author): Thinking like a mountain. How to explore the landmarks of change – on foot (+ Q & A session)\nUlrich Grober is a German publicist\, broadcaster and journalist. His work covers cultural history as well as future visions\, sustainability and ecological lifestyles. His books on the art of hiking and the idea of sustainability invite us to rediscover the essence of modern-day concepts\, their soul and soft power. They had a considerable impact on the discussion and led to numerous invitations to lecture at universities and civil society groups. \nSlot 2 (18.30-20.00)\nLecture 1: Ivan Foletti (Masaryk University\, Brno): Walking: a Tool for Discovering the Past (+ Q & A session)\nIvan Foletti is full professor of art history at Masaryk University\, Brno\, where he specializes in the art of Milan\, Rome\, and the Caucasus in the Late Antique and Early Medieval periods. In his research he explores the notion of “sacred space” as multimedia reality\, considering all techniques and the performance of human bodies. His further research interests include the interaction between politics\, ideologies and art history from 19th century Russia to 20th century Czechoslovakia and France\, and the Pilgrimage art of 12th and 13th century. \nLecture 2: Ernst Merkinger (Blogger & Long-Distance Hiker): Recognize and realize trough Walking (+ Q & A session)\nErnst Merkinger is a long- distance-hiker/pilgrim\, meditation- teacher and author. He started meditating at the age of thirteen. Thirteen years later\, he did his first pilgrimage\, which has been the beginning of being grasped by its quality\, impact of being on foot for a longer period of time. A 3.500 km walk from Vienna to Marrakesh\, several long-distance-hikes in the alps (Lechweg\, Adlerweg\, Alpe-Adria-Trail\, etc.) were the next steps in his life. Since 2020 Ernst has been offering online meditations. \nWith regards to access to and grading of the lecture series:\nAll the classes can be accessed through a recurring Zoom link open for everyone: https://univienna.zoom.us/j/99951349832?pwd=eS9HbzBxSXZIaHlKV2JhcFVWM09sZz09\nBesides\, studens of the University of Vienna may want to register for the course.
